“I sometimes think we take The Irish Times for granted more than we should, but this podcast offers a conversational tone to political discussion that newspapers rarely can. There is high quality discussion of tough policy issues and current affairs, but the most insightful moments often come when the hosts take a step back and offer a less varnished stance on issues. Often this kind of off-the-cuff armchair commentary is a lot of hot air, but coming from seasoned political reporters, the talk on Inside Politics often feels like listening in on the private conversations of political insiders, giving the whole show an air of honesty that brings its own insights. That being said, I would like to hear some more discussion of substantive issues like housing, direct provision, and economic policy, and a little less about the weekly shenanigans of various politicians and constituents. Three good recent episodes: Amnesty and Foreign Money in Politics, Fintan O’Toole on Pre-Fascism and the Yeats Test, and Chaos in Westminster. Favourite Episode - Housing Crisis: Time for the State to Build”
