“This could well be the definitive podcast for film fans. Kermode isn't always someone I agree with, but no-one can doubt just how educated he is in film, and even when his opinions are as opposed to mine as they could be, he still manages to convey his points in an interesting and academic fashion. There's clearly no other critic out there who can rant and riff in the same way Kermode can, and he is aided by Mayo's presumably fake lack of interest. It's Mayo that offers Kermode the chance to really shine, and the two quite clearly have a friendship that extends beyond the show. My only complaint is that I wish the shows were longer! Obviously that isn't possible, given that this is a podcast ripped out of the original radio broadcast, but more Kermode and Mayo is never a bad thing. If film is one of your big passions, you simply can't go wrong here. The discussion is always lively and always interesting, so give it a listen and enjoy film criticism from a man who wears a quiff with absolute sincerity!”Read full review »
