Faux inspiration
I wanted to like this - I enjoy Scriptnotes, this podcast is well produced, but it's WAY over the top and kind of insulting. Getting book deals and agents is only easy if you're already famous... enter John August. His "self doubt" about his book and everything that goes along with it is laughable. People spend years if not decades trying to get an agent, and August picks up the phone and has the biggest one in the industry seemingly within hours. Of course he would - he's a well known screenwriter. To slap the inspirational music on top of this self-indulging podcast is pretty nauseating. As someone else said, this is obviously marketing for the book, which wouldn't be a bad thing if the podcast didn't have a "little engine that could" vibe. I'm not particularly interested to see if the rich and famous screenwriter becomes even more rich and famous.Read full review »
