Fascinating look into book publishing
Huge Scriptnotes fan here (literally since episode 1), and really loving this look into John's journey into the world of novel writing. One piece of (hopefully) constructive feedback for John: Craig mentioned that this podcast features a "new" John, and I think he's right. On Scriptnotes, John's tone is very conversational and casual (probably because of the gabfest format) — but so far in this podcast I can't help but feel that John is reading the text with a slightly affected "narrator" delivery that's artificially high and a little bit forced. It kinda bumps me out of the flow, and I wish his narration were more conversational (like in his interviews with the people featured). I realize a more natural VO probably just comes with practice (or maybe this only bothers me because I'm so used to Scriptnotes), but neverthless wanted to pass along the feedback. Also, some of the music cues are a little bit on the nose—sometimes less is more :) Regardless, keep up the good work!Read full review »

Like John’s other podcast and screenwriting tools; this well designed story of how a book is made has the fit and finish of a handcrafted watch that you would hand down to your kids someday; or, recommend to other writers.

Very cool to hear about the personal motivations for someone with a very public and successful career who decides to try something completely different. Looking forward to the rest of the show!
