Episode 1 of Season 2 is finally here! Thank you for all of the encouragement. We shall proceed and see what comes of this, eh? Today’s episode is a bit of a catch up. We talk about an exhibit I recently completed, about gear de-acquisition syndrome, about disappointments and boredom in photography, and a few bits and pieces about a few Leicas. They include the SL2, the Q2, the M10-P Safari, the M10-D, and more. Thanks for listening and stay in touch! Josh Lehrer, General Manager of Leica...

This episode is brought to you by mother earth! In all seriousness, this episode centers on my incredible conversation with Ben Horne, a full-time nature photographer based in California. Ben uses large format film and takes us along on his popular YouTube channel. His channel, by the way, may be the oldest dedicated landscape photo channel on the web. Keeping with the nature theme, I just returned from a few days in the far north shooting images and video of owls and other wildlife for...

This episode is something new. I’m calling it straight out of camera because it’s essentially whatever comes to my mind, with hardly an edit in sight. This is the real me. This episode I talk about a wide variety of topics in a short amount of time (well, a relatively short amount of time for me anyway). Please let me know what you think! My objective is to fill in some of the blanks between interviews and more formally structured episodes, just to make sure I’m sharing and staying in touch...

This interview has been a long time coming. I am proud to speak with my friend Tayler Chaparelle, an EMT based in South Carolina. Tayler's incredible story resonated with me the first time she bravely emailed me months and months ago. After a bout with PTSD, Tayler struggled with depression and found her way out with her camera. Now, she is on the verge of owning her first Leica, a Leica Q2. It only took her 650 hours of overtime to get it! Tayler is a special soul and I know you will enjoy...

This is part 2 of the first on-air interview for the Like A New Day Podcast and we couldn't be happier that we had the exciting, thoughtful, talented, and funny Justin Mott as our guest. Based in Vietnam, Justin has one of the most interesting resumes you will find in the field. A former presenter on a History Channel show about photography, a working photographer with more than 100 assignments for the New York Times to his credit, and the owner of a production company, Justin has a lot to...

This episode is all about virtual contact sheets in Lightroom and the fact that what we are seeing when we scroll through there are mostly the thousands of images that did not make the cut! In other words, you are surrounding yourself with your "failures" and we should let ourselves off the hook for them. We also talk about LED lights in a very unscientific way, and how we can use them for both video and still photos with great success, especially with mirrorless cameras. Finally, I...

We all have limitations as photographers, and in this episode I explore my own. With vision impairment resulting from an accident many years ago, I struggle with maintaining binocular vision and struggle with double vision when I don’t wear my coke bottle glasses. I am also a left eye dominant shooter. These two issues conspired to make it nearly impossible to shoot an analog rangefinder, as I found out after acquiring my dream camera, the Leica M10-D. Thankfully, Leica DC came to my rescue...

Have you ever had your images purchased or published? Have you ever used your day job to leverage your photography career or hobby? I sure have. I will talk about my publication recent history as an amateur enthusiast photographer and how I got there on my own, and with help from my career in the nonprofit world. I will also go over a series of listener messages, talk about my favorite podcast, and explore my own stumbling, bumbling pathway to shooting fully manual and working with a...

I believe that Leica cameras do not cost a lot of money...they are WORTH a lot of money. That said, many people that would change the world with a Leica in their hands can’t get there financially. This episode explores my dream of building a community to create a resource to help them achieve their dreams. Can we come together and prove that Leica cameras are not just luxury ornaments for the rich? That Leica cameras are valuable, durable, incredible tools that have a heritage of changing...

I had a recent conversation that informed my first topic today. I have been thinking a lot about what makes me happy, and what doesn’t. Speaking of happiness and sadness, we look at the “rose colored glasses” of the photo world and talk filters and how to misuse them like me. Finally, I blab on about the Leica SL2 and why it may be a value over less expensive cameras (spoiler alert, its expensive but has a longer shelf life thanks to the quality and firmware updates from the mother ship). I...

After a pandemic-induced hiatus, and thanks to the listeners who have reached out to encourage me, here I am! With all the uncertainty in the world, I debated over topics quite a bit. I settled on avoiding cliches and shooting off-balance to do so...and paired that up with the unusual and mystifying Leica M10-D! The YouTube video from Ben Staley can be found here: youtube.com/watch?v=GF_OfX_SHWg&t=985s Like A New Day is brought to you by Zachary Branigan Photography: Link:...

This week we explore the concept of using the work of others as a starting point in our own development as creators. In particular, we will discuss the work of Alan Schaller and Sean Tucker, especially as they are well-suited to the transition into the second segment, which will cover how meter for highlight and use old fashioned techniques to get that very high contrast look, especially in black and white photography. Finally, I’ll ramble on about the object of my obsession, the Leica M10...

This episode goes into detail about how you can make time in your every day life for your creative process. We are also going to talk about the concept of imperfect photography, or something I’d like to call dirty frames. Finally, we’re gonna talk about Leica cameras and the Leica Q2. It can be hard to set aside time to be creative, no matter if you are a photographer or musician or knitter or baker. In this episode, I am going to tell you a little about how I have integrated photography...
