“Listening to the podcast with Dr zelana on my way to the hospital and I’m so happy to hear people put into words my exact feeling. When you spoke about the worry of what everyone else is going to think about what you’re doing and how waiting for their approbation will never come it made me chuckle because my sister and I (daughters of wonderful Persian immigrants) have the daily conversation. As a physician who is pursuing some side gigs I often feel like a 12-year-old who is still looking for her parents’ approval and even though my parents are wonderfully proud I still can’t help but sense that they want me to stay on the straight and narrow! And I always need to shake that idea.
And when you and the doctor were speaking about Resilience – if my children were in the car they would’ve laughed out loud!I am constantly yammering on to them about how my job is to raise them to be independent and resilient and if that instead I go down the path of only asking them to be happy or helping them be happy and I will ruin them forever because happiness is a short and fleeting emotion where as everyone who is independent and resilient will have all of the other beneficial parts of life trickle down from there. Great work!”
