PSA re: human trafficking
According to this podcast, there is a PLETHORA of upper middle class white women from suburban neighborhoods frequently being targeted by sex and snatched up by trafficking rings. However, the reality is that 99.9 percent of human/sex trafficking victims are marginalized individuals living on the fringes of society, often runaways, and are typically victimized by someone they already know. These are people who are considered "unimportant" and easily overlooked by traffickers. These people completely matter, and the media chooses to focus more on what Hollywood would deem more interesting . The notion that human trafficking rings are operating in places where privileged women gather, such as a hobby lobby, is simply not true. Putting that aside, the first three seasons of this show were exceptional, and the rest are still worth listening to. Just be prepared for privileged women complaining about creepers bein creepers. As a potential ideal candidate for the false narratives version of trafficking victim myself (white, upper mid class woman) who has worked in bartending, clubs, and now a high level male-dominated fields, I understand that creeps exist, always have, unfortunately always will. However, at times, this topic can become repetitive. Let’s read is a good podcast of stories, while far more polished /edited, covers a wider range of topics and themes :)Read full review »
