The truth that needs to be told about living a life in medicine
I just discovered this podcast while on a leave of absence from residency, very close to graduation but questioning my entire life and wondering what is wrong with me. After just an episode chelsea has helped me to realize the answer to this question- nothing is wrong with me. We all know the culture of healthcare is toxic and breed stress, burnout and mental and physical illness amongst providers especially residents. We are all immersed in a survival mode culture of “pushing through” and accepting misery. Chelsea heroically challenged this narrative and countered this course path, opening the world to a life of possibilities again, reminding me of what I had originally hoped for when I committed to pursuing a life in medicine in the first place, but also to see how much I have evolved as a person and the need to evolve my life with my changing interests. Thank you so much Chelsea for being honest and for setting an example of living your truth, speaking the truth of what goes on in our confined toxic culture of “accomplishments” in medicine and for encouraging me to embrace my extra ideas and interests instead of being annoyed by my misery- it is telling me how misaligned I am living to my true self and how also how bad my burnout is. I plan to work with you in coaching or one of your courses and am so grateful there are people like you who are not afraid to speak out against this brutal system of medicine despite the fact that we are “lucky to be helping people” “healthcare hero’s” and for the truth about debt and being beholden to the profession because of our loans and feeling so stuck. I truly appreciate your willingness to speak out and be a voice for so many who are afraid to change, don’t know how to or don’t even realize how stuck and miserable they/we are.

More reviews of Life After Medicine
There is a deep cynicism in medicine that is hurting physicians, as we lose more power and control over our lives to the increasingly corporatized healthcare system. Chelsea helps bring hope and joy back to life after medicine!

I love that Chelsea talks so candidly about leaving medicine and life beyond it. As a fellow “drop out” myself it’s an interesting, relatable and helpful podcast.
