Disappointing
I had high hopes for the "scout" podcasts, but was extremely disappointed. The idea is unique - allowing NBA insiders to give a behind-the-scenes look at the NBA while maintaining anonymity - but the execution is a complete flop. Locke and the scout never disagree; the scout merely repeats Locke's theories back to the audience. I'm not entirely sure the scout even watches basketball. In the "Scout Part 2" podcast, Locke asks him to name a player who "is better than most people realize." The Scout stammers for 30 seconds, unable to arrive at a single name. Locke continues to prod, and the Scout finally arrives at Monta Ellis as his answer! Monta - not a young, up-an coming, under the radar player - is the first player a person thinks of who watches hundreds of baskeball games a year?! Monta occasionally scores, but his defense is atrocious and he still shoots 29% on 3-pointers. In fact, Bill Simmons and Haralobos Voulgaris recently cited him next to Rudy Gay as a player who "continually frustrates the fans of his team." Locke is almost unbearable on his own - with an arsenal of Skip Bayless-like "hot takes". Fans of podcasts that have actual analysis, like Dunc'd On, the Lowe Post, and the Real GM podcast, won't be satisfied with Locked on NBA.Read full review »
