Imbalance in the Interviewers
I downloaded show #7 specifically because I love Alison Armstrong, and wanted to hear Robert and Hollie interview her. Alison was, as always, clear, thoughtful, and absolutely riveting. Unfortunately, I couldn't even finish the program because I was so distracted by the imbalance between the show's hosts. In this show, Robert's comments and questions were always reflective, and invited Alison into a dialogue or a more detailed answer. Listening, I could feel the conversation deepening every time Robert spoke -- and cheapening every time Hollie spoke. Every comment she made was a reactive one; her questions revealed that unlike Robert, she wasn't *really* listening to what Alison said; it's almost as if she were trying (unsuccessfully) to jazz things up, rather than eliciting meaningful content. It's a nifty idea for a married couple to offer a podcast about relationships, but this one just doesn't work due to the imbalance between their ability to listen and respond thoughtfully.Read full review »
