Change the Burnt Out Bulb Already
Listen now
Description
How many therapists does it take to change a light bulb? One…but the light bulb really has to want to change. **Crickets chirping** HA! I’m making a ridiculous confession. I let a light bulb in my closet stay burnt out for about a year before I decided enough was enough. A year. I simply adjusted my eye sight and fumbled around when necessary. What I discovered when I finally changed that bulb was…awful and wonderful.  How long should we walk around in the darkness, avoiding the inevitable, before we take action?  I shared a piece of an article a beautiful friend wrote in which I was honored with one of the greatest compliments I’ve ever received. I’m including it here because it helped me understand that when we are intentional about giving ourselves permission to grown (aka change) others are noticing - even when you think they aren’t. And it gives them permission to do the same. The article was entitled “The Ten Best People I Know". I was #7… and it was life-changing! The people who are willing to have their minds changed Times change. People change (now I have Exposé stuck in my head). We evolve but all too often beliefs and opinions stay mired in the past. And there can be a lot of pressure to keep them there, which is why I so admire the people who are strong enough to unstick themselves. People who consciously choose their beliefs after examining several sides of an issue, even if it means saying they were wrong... well those are admirable folk. Rare and admirable. This one is for Denée. If you’d like to read the entire article - here ya go!
