Great story/production, hampered by audience choices
When I first discovered Malevolent, I was absolutely hooked. I binged all the available episodes, and was seriously impressed with the production value, performances, and writing. The only thing that threw me off was that the protagonist kept making choices occasionally that I could NOT understand; it seemed like the writing kept completely ignoring plot and character development here and there, and I couldn’t figure out why, given how tight the writing was overall. Annnnd then I discovered that the highest patreon tier for the pod lets patrons make choices in the story here and there, and it made sense. I do understand the appeal from a Patreon standpoint, but as a listener, it really kept taking me out of the story, because the audience choices were just so incongruous with the rest of the writing. It’s not bothersome enough to make me stop listening, but it is honestly a bit of a bummer given how great the writing and rest of the production value is.

More reviews of Malevolent
I’ve listened to a lot of podcasts with terrible acting, this is not one of them. The voice of the entity with Arthur is so easy to listen to, oddly relatable at times and conveys so much emotion. And the voice of Arthur is entirely human. The writing is excellent.
