July’s Book of the Month - she was not mad!
I totally agree with Jo, the character is not mad. The book acutely speaks to the experience of any woman who has felt they had to suppress their authentic selves and desires, who have felt dominated or controlled by men, or who have generally contorted themselves to meet societal norms. Breaking free is a show of courage, and craving nature is craving a world outside of a constructed society for a world of freedom, where there is only the natural self. I enjoyed the debate though!

Interesting and informed discussion about great novels.

It would surely have been helpful if the guests discussing the Booker long list had actually read all the books. I appreciate there are many of them but really, what’s the point in listening to so much conjecture?
