Stephen Stanko’s life was seemingly derailed after he failed to earn an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy after high school. This failure triggered a change in his behavior where he soon resorted to petty crimes which eventually escalated to rape and murder. The reason for his sudden leap to kill remains somewhat of a mystery - Stanko refused to testify and his defense team tried to reason that Stanko’s brain was “defective,” hoping to convince the jury to rule in favor of an...

Fritz Haarmann, the Butcher of Hanover, murdered at least 27 young boys and teenagers between 1918 and 1924 in the city of Hanover but the actual number of victims is most likely higher. He would lure runaways and sex workers back to his apartment with offers of a hot meal and somewhere comfortable to sleep but once the door closed, Haarmann turned deadly. He would attack them, strangling and beating them before biting each boy on the neck through the windpipe in what Haarmann later...
