In this video, I'm using a makeshift Pitot-static tube to measure the velocity of the flow in Drake's Leat, on 28th September 2015. It reveals a design flaw (since corrected) in the Pitot-static tube: the crucial water column heights are hard to see when present in person, and impossible to see in the video. Qualitative experiments on branched pipe flow, Plymouth University Scott Building, 25th September 2015. The camera didn't record a soundtrack, but I've tried to make clear what's going on by hand gestures and facial expressions. If you're studying Plymouth University module "Thermal-Fluids Engineering" (THER307) in 2015-2016, we'll hopefully be doing this experiment live during the lecture on 1st October 2015. Various measurements with positive pressure flow meters, Plymouth University Marine Building, 22nd September 2015. The camera didn't record a soundtrack, so the explanatory commentary is missing. If you're studying Plymouth University module "Fluid Mechanics 1" (HYFM230) in 2015-2016, I'll talk you through it in the lecture on 6th October 2015. I'm hoping to overdub it with commentary at a later date. [(CC) BY-NC-SA 2.0 UK]

I took this bit of video footage in Ivybridge town centre. It shows the river Erme flowing over a stone obstacle on its bed. There is a rectangular channel cut through the obstacle, in which the development of (from the upstream to the downstream side) first laminar boundary layers, then turbulent boundary layers, then fully-developed pipe flow, can be seen. Plymouth University's Marine Building official opening with HRH Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh took place on 30 October 2012. His Royal Highness was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Marine Science from the University in recognition of his decorated career in the Royal Navy. Events were held across the Plymouth University campus in celebration of the occasion, and the highlights of the day were streamed live over the internet for all to see. [(CC) BY-NC-SA 2.0 UK]
