C'mon! Jump into the deep end
I'm a man of a certain age who grew up idolizing the greats of 1950s & 60s baseball: Mays, Aaron, Flood, Kuenn. Devoured the stats on the back of playing cards. Knew the utility infielders of teams in the Junior Circuit my NL team rarely played. And I played soccer. But I didn't have access to professional soccer games. There were no playing cards, no This Week in Soccer, no Match of the Week, no television coverage at all, and so I was not steeped in the tales, the folklore, the mythology of The Beautiful Game. Then along come these two bald, British ex-pats, the Men in Blazers. Not only do their podcasts provide insight into current games, they regaie listeners with tales and anecdotes of players and momentous games of ages past. They make you laugh, they expose the ugly side of the game (FIFA, UEFA, apartments for cats), and they share their exuberant love of the sport all the while eschewing hyperbole (sorta). So if you are new to soccer, if you're soccer curious, pick a Premier League team, listen to the torrent of podcasts, read the newsletters, and get hooked. Soon you'll be riding your bike, pre-dawn on a Saturday morning, soccer trading cards snapping against the spokes, to a local pub for your weekly fix of SOCK-kah! Just fast forward through the ads.Read full review »
