I listen to a lot of podcasts and have often become “obsessed” with one or another. I binged this one and have to say this has been the best! How on earth you managed such difficult subject matter, getting psychologically deeper and sociologically more and more significant with each episode -...Read full review »

I loved this podcast, I had never heard of this treasure hunt and you did an amazing job of telling the story of the hunt and bringing in the journey taken by someone who was deeply invested in it. Great job. When I slow walk the final couple episodes, as I did with this podcast, not wanting it...Read full review »

Forrest’s treasure is great subject matter. It’s a wonder it hasn’t been covered more extensively. The podcast is well done in the sense it draws you in and I applaud the producer/narrator’s ambition. The cringe factor for me is the exploitation of the subjects in the doc. It prods for...Read full review »

Very fascinating part adventure part physiological thriller

Enjoyed this story - something a little different to other content that’s out there, and extremely compelling. Emotive, curious and thought provoking. Some of the interviewing made me cringe (eg, “race aside”) but overall it’s a great story worth a listen.

I was not expecting this story about the treasure hidden in the Rockies to be so profound and gripping. I loved this so much.

This podcast/story is magic. The author is a wonderful writer and insightful thinker - a special combination. There is so much respect and empathy for Darryl, it took what could have been a straightforward story and filled it with the messy nuance of the human condition. I am wishing Darryl well...Read full review »

Great show but skip last episode, it’s to sappy and creator was trying way to hard to make some emotional connection.

I’ve literally never reviewed a podcast before but this one deserves a warning in big ALL CAPS. This is NOT about treasure hunting. It’s about a man/men on the brink and at times it’s super boring. The breakdown - 20% treasure hunting, 80% semi-boring human interest podcasting. Half of the...Read full review »

I’ve listened to a lot of podcasts, and this one is an A+. The story, the analysis, the interviews, and the narration make a beautiful story. Thank you so much for the care you took with Darrell in supporting him on both of his treasure hunts!!

My friend Will told me about this pod and I just started listed to it. After the first episode I am hooked. The production value is super high. And the narration and storytelling is exceptional. I can’t wait to finish the story.

This podcast was captivating, heartbreaking and beautiful. I have to admit, I went into it thinking it was a fiction podcast, but quickly realized it was a true story. It kind of even made the experience better. The host did an amazing job and hope to hear more stories from him. He honoured...Read full review »

Very hard to get through with the pretentious narrator’s constant whining and complaining. There isn’t any depth at all to this story so he reaches and claws at laughable conclusions. Fenn is a very interesting character though, world needs more of him.

Amazing podcast! Trying to look for something to not like about this but can’t find any. Great storytelling and pace.

This podcast was excellent. The story was engaging and heartbreaking and uplifting. The host/writer is a great story teller, with a lot of empathy and understanding, and also has a lovely voice for the medium. I would listen to any podcast by him . 100% recommended

This is not a straight-ahead story about the Fenn Treasure. If you know that going in this story has so much to offer.

This was such a good podcast! It was a little different than what I expected—instead of just edge of your seat suspense the whole time, it went deep into the psychology of treasure hunters and specifically Darrell (who the reporter was following). I found the psychological part just as...Read full review »

This is one podcast that puts me there in the moment in the snow, in the water, and hanging on a cliff looking for the treasure I know is there. It’s seems like it’s being forced on a well worn podcast style. S-Town or Serial. But it’s missing something. I think the narrator is focused more of the story as a whole, rather then the people involved as individuals. Giving a content warning after an episode has started, and then immediately...Read full review »

The podcast is well crafted, and has an interesting premise. I was really interested in the treasure, the lore behind it, and the hunt- however, the podcast derailed into the interpersonal connections of the man looking for the treasure and was just dreary and depressing. I’m sorry, but i don’t...Read full review »

The host certainly did a very good job. I just find it to be too stretched. Like the cops whole life history and stuff like that; I don’t care about that and it makes for half the podcast.

This podcast is wonderfully interesting, but I almost can’t listen: it starts with a black man spending time in jail for the « crime » of … what? Having a metal detector and needing a rescue in Yellow Stone National Park?? I got interested in this because I’ve been listening to outdoor...Read full review »

The show started off good -- adventure , intrigue, goofy characters; the things I normally look for in an adventure podcast. I love Outside Magazine content and their associated content. Nine episodes in, however, and I had to delete it. What started off as an adventure tale took a turn to...Read full review »

Couldn’t stand the narration nor the structure of the storytelling. I can see what they’re trying to do, but it misses the mark by a fair way. Instead of gripping, the pace is pedestrian and a bit too clever for its own good. Less is more, learn to intrigue the listener, learn from Ira.
