“Great idea - the shock factor wasn’t really there until ‘The Butcher’. The first two shorts were easy listening to be honest, but The Butcher is what I expected and wanted it to be. In addition:
- the advert for that stupid, ridiculous security company in The Butcher, Part 1 almost made me delete the entire podcast. Firstly, there were no adverts ANYWHERE else, and then randomly that ridiculous advert. No. Don’t do it again, and if you do, I’m not subbing.
- By Part 2 of The Butcher, the sound effects and narration got waaaaay better. The ‘acting’ or whatever it’s called by the hosts sounds amateur - they should’ve taken alternates when it came to victim vs perpetrator narration. It would’ve made more sense. The dodgy voice acting in some of the sections was really, really bad. Please get other people to do those snippets if they’re that necessary. For me, the Butcher Part 2 was the best executed in terms of all of these irritants.
- The background sounds were great.
- I’ve been more shocked by some Sword and Scale episodes more than this. It wasn’t really that shocking - other than The Butcher. The Butcher was what I wanted this entire show to be.
- The writing is amazing. I like that the entire show is based off of real life events, and that it ‘captures’ that which is pre and post the offence, rather than just the offence then prosecution, then custodial sentence, end of story.
Other than that I really like the idea of this. Obviously being the first iteration there will be opportunities for improvement and I hope they do because this is something that can be really new to true crime - it just needs a little bit of refinement.”
