We don't consider ourselves parenting experts but altogether we do have 7 pretty independent kids. Sometimes frustratingly independent but in the long run, we know that's what's going to benefit them in the long run (even if we barely survive their independence during childhood). Teaching your kids independence is important for so many other reasons than just to be able to play independently and we talk about ways we try to work teaching our kids this independence into our every day...
