Love the interplay of the hosts and their senses of humor. Will miss it greatly when it wraps up - any chance you’ll reconsider? Or revive it at some point? Hoping so! (Edited Oct 2023: What a delight to see a new episode come back from the dead and pop up in my feed this morning! I hope you will...Read full review »

Stumbled across this pod recently. First episode was the Blindboy one which was great. Shows like this are great for curing work-related boredom.

I love this podcast that I have just discovered. It opens up so many inroads to learning about and loving modern Irish language in its cultural context. Funny, entertaining in every episode. I still recommend it to enjoy the great fun while it lasted.

A charming podcast about Irish, Ireland and Irish peoples. If you’re new to the Irish language, the presenters talk about Irish in such a way that breaks down myths about the difficulties of learning it. It’s hilarious and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Funny, interesting, entertaining: this podcast is my absolute favourite. If you are at ALL interested in Ireland, listen to this podcast, as it examines a huge variety of topics through the lens of the Irish language. Good but Gearóidín’s swearing grates a bit. Adds nothing. And I’m from Laois.

I don’t have a drop of Irish ancestry, but I enjoy learning languages, and Irish looked interesting (and, let’s face it, downright bizarre at times). I looked for podcasts as Gaeilge, and this was one of the top suggestions, so I gave it a try. I normally listen only to history podcasts with a...Read full review »

I just think the bad language is a bit forced as if it makes them cool.

I have only listened to 2 episodes but they have both been delivered with great warmth, humour and personality from all the participants. I am listening from Manchester in the U.K. and shall continue to listen in chronological order on my long daily commutes. I am fully Irish in terms of blood...Read full review »

I love the Motherfocloir podcast, makes me feel connected to home & what’s happening in Ireland now, through Irish & Irish words. I love that it’s current & not singularly reflecting on the island of the past. Loving your work Podcast Dad

I love the wonderful people on this podcast, guests and regulars, and it gives me a lot to think about, both with the language and culture. The studio shows are great; very well put together. The live shows are kind of a mess. The latest was rough to get through- got really messy and random. When...Read full review »

Look forward to this every Friday. More Peadar and Gearóidín, but less Ola. She doesn’t add much and her voice is a tough listen. I’d rather listen to a bag of cats ride when she’s on.

The podcast started out really strong. They had lots of interesting topics relating to the language, culture, and history. In the last month, it's turned into a free-for-all of just random guests rambling without a cohesive topic. It feels like it's just a who's who of Irish...Read full review »

Just binged a bunch of MotherFoclóir, listening over in Australia, now inspired to read Nuala Ní Dhomhaill’s poetry, Flann O’Brien’s collected letters, Kinsella’s Táin; to use Cork slang with confidence and to write as Gaelige in Vikipédia and Twitter. Slán agus go raibh maith agat!

Have been waiting years for a show like this! It’s always light hearted and enjoyable which is the way our approach to Irish should be. Thanks for celebrating the language and Irish culture without taking it too seriously.

I started re-learning Irish. This podcast has been a saving grace. If platforms like this were around when I was in school, I would have done a lot better in irish. The most amazing thing is how their passion for irish transfered to me. Thank you to everybody involved!

Dia daoibh! So, an underlying theme of this podcast (and the excellent book that goes with it) is that the Irish language has been taught with a lack of inspiration and rejected altogether by some in Ireland.
