“Ok so I like this show a lot, however, I listened to the Sakia Gunn story when it was released and it really changed my view of the show b/c I know this story well; I am familiar with Sakia’s family and I vividly remember when she passed. 1. The host pronounced the her name incorrectly the entire episode. An indicator that she did not research the victim at the very least. 2. A lot of the statistics presented to illustrate the city of Newark where Sakia is from were wrong. For example, while crime in Newark is proportionate to most cities of its size, it isn’t on the top 10 most dangerous cities now nor was it in 2004 when Sakia passed. It’s also not “cheap,” but actually pretty expensive compared to most US cities. While these things might seem minor, they’re important to the picture that was painted in the story. The amount of incorrect info made me question the validity of the “facts” on the show and the host’s actual interest in these stories. It seems as if she doesn’t do her own research— or maybe writing, just simply reads a script without fact checking.”
