It's rare to find a balance like this.
I've gone through a lot of podcasts for the sake of learning for fun. History, science, urban legends, older myths. Hell, I spent a month listening to conspiracy and paranormal podcasts because there's nothing more fascinating than analyzing the people who deal with that. Most, I get one or two episodes in, try a random one with a subjec that would appeal to me, and then drop it. I find most tend to fall into two categories. Either it's done in a dense monotone lecture, which while relaxing, is tough to pay attention to; or it's...pithy? I'm not sure what the right word would be, sassy, taking a light silly tone. Which is fine sometimes, but I don't enjoy listening to a podcast that sounds like a 90's cartoon's idea of 'hip'. Somehow, Myths and Legends manages to navigate between the two. It assumes the listener is intelligent enough to have some pre-existing context, but doesn't leave you worrying there's a test next week. He talks like he's sharing a story with a friend, but he never says anything that makes you cringe or feel like he's going to ask you for an awkward high five afterward. This might be nonsensical. Sorry. Long story short. Listen to it. All of it. Even if you know some of the stories, you'll learn more and like it.Read full review »

His take strikes the right balance between story and summary, and his personal quips or asides are well-timed, and add to the experience rather...Read full review »
