Highly recommended and frighteningly close to home
Yikes. The more I listen to this podcast the more I recognize elements of my own childhood, which is really disturbing. I am nearly 40 years old and only just now, listening to these testimonies, understanding a pattern in the extremely disturbing behavior exhibited by my own mother over the course of her life. I wish I had known more about Munchausen, Munchausen by proxy, or facticious disorder sooner. I believe I might have been able to find some peace, mitigate some damage for my younger siblings, or perhaps get some sense of closure before my mother’s recent death. On the other hand, having been conditioned my entire life to protect her and accept her perception of reality, maybe I couldn’t fully face the truth of who she was until I knew she was beyond consequences. Anyway, all that to say thank you to Andrea Dunlop. This show is an engaging listen and this work is so important. I hope shedding light on the issue will help bring awareness to early red flags which might lead to more intervention or resources for children suffering through this nightmare disorder.

Well worth a listen, but a little too subjective and hard to listen to when the narrator makes it all about them - a little too narcissistic

This series presents a very deep an interesting portrayal of a disorder that is so difficult to understand. The narrator’s firsthand experience is an interesting addition too.

I did not think I would get thru an episode since anything to do with child abusers bothers me so much!! But your voice drew me in. You’ve told this horrific stories in such a way that makes them palatable. Thank you for exposing this to the masses. Keep up this important work!
