The episode on the decriminalization of sex work was awful and offensive. It was absolutely disrespectful to Melanie Thompson’s lived experience, her criticism of the sex trade, and her advocacy work as someone personally invested in the Nordic model of sex trade decriminalization. Meghna invited Ariela Moscowitz, an advocate for the full decriminalization of sex work, who did nothing but spout ad hominem attacks and baseless statistics with no grounding in actual research. While Melanie was pried for the most intimate details of her horrific experience in the sex trade, Meghna asked no pointed questions of Ariela. Ariela claimed that all women in the sex trade choose to engage in that “work” because “why wouldn’t they?” Ariela was condescending towards those who favored the Nordic model, and absolutely dismissive of Melanie’s actual lived experience (Ariela, by the way, is a college-educated white woman with a PhD who has no firsthand experience in the sex trade). Meghna showed no courage or confidence in pushing back on a total ideologue. Very disappointing. Unsubscribed.

One show I always look forward to hear. It is one of several referred to friends and the source of many discussions. Tom, you're great. I'll try to call in some day if I catch it live.

Tom Ashbrook is just the best. When he's subbed my week is the lesser for it. Thank you, Mr Ashbrook and WBUR.Read full review »
