An interesting story that suffers from an overwrought presentation
The story of Traci Lords is an interesting one, and one that should be told. But possibly not by Anolik and West. The overly sensualized narration and clunky dialogue between the hosts reminds me of the voiceovers in the Red Shoe Diaries. Maybe that was what they were going for? If so, it doesn’t land. Also, I understand that Lords’ story and the story of those around her at the time vary greatly, but it is quite obvious that this podcast has absolutely no interest in portraying Lords as anything but a precocious teen looking for fame, who masterminded her entire time in the industry. There are ways to question Lords’ portrayal with a lot more journalistic integrity than this series attempts to do. Having said that, the interviews about the industry during this time are interesting, and it’s worth a listen for that aspect. But not much more.
