Episode 5 is irresponsibly reported
Allowing 2 stars bc first 4 episodes are pretty entertaining, and exposes some extremely shady dealers who take advantage of mentally ill ppl. But episode 5 felt like listening to some authoritarian vision for the future of the internet. They in effect call for the repeal of section 230 at the end! Not making this explicit — referring to the extremely important and famous section 230 as “laws that protect speech on the internet” is a huge oversight for any story regarding internet speech. That, plus the butchered technical explanation of cloudflares services (the features they call “privacy features” exist to protect websites for DDOS attacks) and the interview w/ the Bush-administration drug policy aide who now runs a business monitoring internet bogeyman (just lol), suggest that these reporters have a lack of context on issues of internet speech and privacy, and barely understand how the internet works. Section 230 is an extremely active topic of discussion rn, and inadvertently calling for its repeal because people will ingest random pills the order from random websites is insane. Drugs are constantly used as an excuse to crack down on internet speech and privacy, and these reporters completely played into that.

Well researched, thoughtfully written and presented well. A disturbing subject told as tastefully as possible. Can’t wait for the next episode

This podcast is heart wrenching but the story is beautifully woven together in this short series. Thank you for informing me of yet another unfortunate diet culture product that is extremely scary and can inform my clients of the dangers if they ask (I’m an eating disorder dietitian).
