Episode Daft Punk, Part Two : “Get Luck”
I was loving everything about this pod but with this episode, I now fully understand the few negative reviews. One of the biggest rules of any historical research is that you don’t interject your personal opinions into your research unless it is backed by historical evidence. Diallo nonsensically rambling on about the lyrics of “Get Lucky” being a metaphorical representation of Daft Punk’s entire career is utterly absurd! Diallo is Harvard educated and majored in History! He should know better. His musings on the lyrics are about as substantiated as me saying “As a child, Pharrell Williams loved watching the 1980s television series “ALF”. The lyrics to “Get Lucky” are subconsciously about Pharrell’s childhood desire that one day ALF would indeed catch the family cat, thus ALF would “Get Lucky”. “ What the heck with Diallo wasting at least two minutes of the episode with such absurdity. Luxxury was attempting to interject with facts but Diallo wasn’t having it. Another example of how absurd such behavior is would be me stating “Work B#^*+” by Britney Spears is Spears’ Marxist critique of commodity fetishism and a celebration of the worker!” Because we all know Britney is well read on Marxist theory! Luxxury is by far absolved of guilt. Both host are frequently prone to doing off on utter tangents that take up most of the episode. There appears to be a theoretical framework to the pod. Why the heck not stick to the framework? I assume these 15 minute parenthetical asides would lessen as the hosts got more episodes behind them. That doesn’t seem to be the case. I want to love the pod, but…

The song is a bell cocaine addiction… Leaving a lyric that says chop your breakfast on a mirror. In an 1988 interview with Thrasher magazine, Hetfield explained Master of Puppets “deals pretty much with drugs. How things get switched around, instead of you controlling what you're taking and...Read full review »
