I was interested in the story- I love true crime podcasts and had hoped that a fictional story would be able to tell a more complete story. I felt the effects were realistic and the different perspectives presented played like a tv show. I started listening during the quarantine because the episodes are perfect length for walks. I even liked the cheeky on-theme ads! But this podcast is awful. I gave it 3 stars for the overall editing and potential, you can tell there’s a lot of effort and talent behind this. However, I just finished episode 8 and CAN NOT LISTEN ANYMORE. The narrator whines and grumbles and has “thoughtful” pauses of deep breathing that grate my nerves. It’s like Bella Swan’s moody-teenager-y vocal fry vibe in Twilight, just overdone, and I get she’s portraying a grieving woman but cmon. Every interview is between her and an older person who belittles her and then she lashes out at them and someone storms off. The story has no payoff at any point. Looking at other reviews I see it ends with a cliffhanger, which is fair I guess, but after 8 episodes I was hoping for at least ONE of the plot lines to make sense and feel concluded. Just pick something to give us the full story on- give us a fact we can use to form theories and understand the characters better! Why is she on rocky terms with the brother? What’s the connection with the missionaries? What was the M16 stuff about? Was there a health issue? Why should I care that she had a fight with her parents at dinner? Just make something definitive, it’s too distracting from what’s happening with the main plot line of the crash and it’s frustrating as a listener. Don’t waste your time with this! I’m curious to see what else this group may produce but PLEASE no more of Kaitlin.

The great thing about podcasts is that they can be independently produced and written by anyone, regardless of experience, budget, or intervention. In this case, the podcast would have benefitted from some intervention in letting the writer know they have no business writing dialogue. “You’re a...Read full review »
