Finally, a jujitsu podcast that is NOT about BJJ...
I stumbled upon this podcast about a month or two back when looking for a PC about Japanese Jujitsu specifically and this PC seems to be one of the only shows NOT specific to Brazilian JiuJitsu. I train at a dojo in NY that specializes in Japanese Jujitsu and more practical, self-defense based techniques very similar to the producer of this PC, Kobukai Jujitsu. Overall it is a very informative and entertaining show that covers everything from specifics in technique to some of the deeper, philosophical questions and thought processes inherent in practicing the martial arts. I find the 'main host' Shihan Russ St. Hilaire to be very well spoken, knowledgeable and to have a very positive and well-adjusted attitude. There is no bravado or braggadocio and his outlook and philosophies with regards to martial arts, especially the ability to defend yourself (and seriously hurt another human being in the process)are very honest and human. The chemistry between St. Hilaire and his co-host/student Sri works well, as does the contrived Q&A format that typically leads to 'well below the surface' discussions on any given topic. The technical shows will require a bit of mat-time / experience to fully understand and benefit from, but the shows covering more general and philosophical topics are always on-point and easily digestible. Thank you Shihan St. Hilaire and Sri for such an informative and well made show. OSU!Read full review »
