Absolutely brilliant podcast. Informative and entertaining.

A welcome relief from the boring shows that just sound like they’re reading out a book. The Professor sometimes does shows on his own, sometimes interviews guests and experts. Nice diversity.

The Episode on MTH AMERICA with Dr Karen Cox about the history of Confederate monuments. Having grown up in the South in the 1950s and 60s and seen the gradual improvement in as well as the resistance to recognition of the rights of non-white citizens, I found the discussion important.

Thoughtful and entertaining. Always takes real scholarship on history and makes it engaging and accessible. Now that the history channel has morphed into the bad sci-fi channel, this is my go to for a good history fix.

Really appreciate the variety of topics covered. Never a dull moment listening to the Professor!

I have enjoyed this podcast for years. Joe is a very talented historian and writer. The show always features interesting topics and great guests such as Dr. Phil Nash. The guests are all very informative, but it’s Joe who makes the show.

• Episode: “Ante Pavelic.” The blurb should read “rein in” not “reign in”. Or how about “rein in the reign ...”? • Episode: “Fake News In American History”, in which the Professor invents a word, “nother”, as in “... a whole nother ball game”. • Episode: “The Pizza Effect ..., in which the...Read full review »

I highly recommend their three part series about the Nazis as probably their best work of sawing through the myths we were all taught in history classes. I wish I could take one of Professor Nash’s classes. Even online would be great.

After a trip down a historical movies and Civil War portrayels in film (Gods and Generals is garbage btw), I discovered the term “The Lost Cause” myth, and I was gob smacked that there was a term that encompasses so much about the US Reconstruction and Reconciliation period, especially with the...Read full review »

A thouroughly engaging podcast that puts to end the myth that History professors are all stuffy.

Phillip Nash is my favorite guest; those episodes are thoroughly informative and entertaining. But, I also LOVED the episode on “Did Jesus write the Constitution?” with Craig Hammond. The conversation was smooth, well-paced, not interruptive. As a high school History teacher and born again...Read full review »

The Lost Cause Myth # 227 was my first introduction to your podcast Overall they were very informative since I am an amateur historian who is always studying. It was great except for complacency in your audio and tone volume/speech. Sometimes you get so caught up in what your saying to the...Read full review »

I love this podcast and the history that is presented and how the episodes are usually 10-15 minutes and that there are the occasional in-depth episode.

Professor Buzzkill tells how history affects the present in an informative and entertaining manner. I walk away from this show feeling smarter. (I particularly enjoy segments where Professor Nash guests on the show.)

I happened upon this podcast as I was on a search for knowledge on the Bombing of Dresden. I really enjoyed the podcast and subscribed. And I have not been disappointed. Realllly enjoy the ww2 chat episodes, very interesting content and topics covered. I don’t bother listening to any of the short episodes though because too much of that intro/outro song drives me nuts

I was looking for short podcasts to fill in between longer forms and I wanted to like this. His style is a little off-putting for me; I prefer a more laid-back, less frenetic style, but that is a personal issue. Love the detail and complexity that the host goes into--so many popular history podcasts flatten the past for an easy story but this one shows that the reality is always more interesting. Love the computer dating episode!

I usually listen to this podcast on my morning run or in the car. It helps fill in the gaps on things I missed along the way or managed to never get a chance to read about. Professor Buzzkill is an academic with a sense of humor out to rewrite the history you were taught incorrectly. The Longform shows and the mini-myth shows make a good combo and are more than fun most narrative history podcasts out there.

Well-researched and told in an entertaining manner. However, in the process of buzzkilling and myth-busting, the Professor sometimes comes across as condescending and politically left-leaning. Overall, though, it's a great history podcast with a unique approach.Read full review »
