“UPDATE: After listening halfway through Episode 83, and not at all understanding what the hoax was that they were talking about I caved and googled the topic. Luckily Jason Colavito had a page on it and after one paragraph of reading I finally had some grasp of what the hoax actually entailed. Pity the hosts of Archy Fantasy can't remember to do a basic summary for those of us not in the know, rather than a rambling, confused half-telling. I am finally unsubscribing to this podcast; even an irregular reading of Colavito's site will provide the listener with better information, presented in a more legible way. There are probably better archeology podcasts out there... pity so very few deal with the issues of hoaxes and pre-science understandings of cultures.
This podcast started off great but seems to vary over time in quality. Some episodes are pack full of new information or at least a new angle on familiar topics. Some episodes just seem to be waffling on a particular topic (with the regular failure to actually introduce the topic or items of discussion for people unfamiliar with it, so you'll need to be googling the subject before listening if you actually want to understand the conversation), and no real direction in mind. Some episodes, like #52 and its summary of the mummy's curse are worth downloading, others are hit and miss. Expect discussion to be America-centric. I no longer listen regularly but only if the subject matter is particularly unusual and piques my interest.”
