“Tom Chick and Jason McMaster - professional game writers whose combined body of work includes writing for Crispy Gamer, Gamepro, and Computer Gaming World - host this excellent video game podcast, along with a guest every week. Usually these guests are just normal folk who volunteer to be on, but Mr. Chick and Mr. McMaster's reputation in the gaming world occasionally grants them access to high profile game designers, including Saints Row 3 lead designer Scott Phillips and Ascension creator Justin Gary.
Unlike many other video games podcasts which often suffer from let's-just-BS-about-random-gaming-stuff syndrome, Qt3 keeps a regular topic every week to generate their discussion. Chick, McMaster, and their guest each talk about a current news piece related to gaming, along their individual games of the week, which generally is something that has recently been released, keeping things topical. Discussion isn't what you'll get from your local Gamestop employee either - expect to hear intelligent criticism of gameplay mechanics, immersion, story elements, and comparisons to other games within the genre.
That's not to say the podcast doesn't offer its share of laughs; McMaster's unique silliness contrasts well with Chick's more sarcastic sense of humor, leading to plenty of banter and cajoling amongst the two friends. Both of them have been playing games for years - it isn't uncommon to hear a funny anecdote about a game they played in 1996. They usually stay on task, however, and never stray too far from the main topics if the discussion goes elsewhere.
If you want to listen to two professionals who know a lot about games, have a good understanding of the industry and what's going on in it, and have a lot of passion about gaming, then this is absolutely the podcast for you. It will keep you knowledgable of most of the big titles out there, along with a lot of smaller indie or iOS gems. Definitely something to check out if you like video games.”
