Brilliant - from an ex-pen pal of two 90's Premier League players!
This is just fantastic - sorry I've been late to listen but now making up by binge listening after recommendation from a friend. Your podcasts have particularly resonated with me as I used be a penpal to two 90s England players. One, who's club I was a season ticket of, was an under 21s international - he remarked that he liked keeping up correspondence as it provided him with the opportunity to practise and improve his type-writing skills. The other though was a full International who painstakingly hand wrote every word on the page! This lastest some years, and while this all brought obvious joy the need to keep each a secret from the other left its own problems. It actually felt like managing an illicit affair, a demand that weighed particularly heavy upon someone so young who hadn't acquired the commensurate life skills. To cut a long story short, and like all passing ships our clandestine menage a trois was destined to come to an end - one player moved away from the team I supported...and we slowly fizzled out. The other though I must take full responsibility for, as in one moment of madness I finally, stupidly, admitted to him that I was in fact a supporter of a rival London club. I never heard from him again..... In the subsequent years, and from a distance I watched his career decline - dropped from the England squad, moved on from his Premier League club....an inevitable consequence of the ageing process or perhaps......? Who knows. I still have all the letters somewhere in a dusty drawer but rarely give them light preferring to recall the hazy perfection of those days. I have taken a number of lessons from this time though, which have been of benefit through my life to date, namely, long distance relationships are often doomed, as are liaisons based on such lies. If you can read my words while humming the backdrop from Simon Bates iconic 90s offering, 'Our Tune', I would be eternally appreciative. Another of this though...great work lads and keep it up! More reviews of Quickly Kevin; will he score? The 90s Football Show
Wonderful nostalgia for a great era of football, was going to give it 5 stars anyway but feel pier pressured into it by Josh Widdicombe, a bit like Arsenal youngsters with Paul Merson in the 90s probably.

From Italia 90 to losing total interest in however football ended with the MIllennium Bug, this show is seriously evocative of perhaps the best football period ever. QK;WHS? put it best themselves – it was the madness of big money and international talent crashing into stuff like Razor Ruddock...Read full review »
