One of the best
I’ve subscribed to several science podcasts; this one is my favourite. The format of the show is usually a simple survey of interesting recent work covering a wide range of scientific fields. The presentation is straightforward and comprehensible. It’s subtly humourous, in a slightly cheesy but endearing way that gives the show levity but never interferes with the topic at hand. There are few bells and whistles. The scientists—the people actually did the reasearch—are given centre stage, while host Bob MacDonald supports them with well-judged questions that are intelligent and to the point, making sure the fundamentals are covered alongside the more academic points. It is thus a show that manages to be accessible but never dumbed down. In fact, I don’t know of any show that manages to bring the non-speicalist listener so smoothly into the depths of a subject so successfully as this one does. Highly recommended.
