“I have listened to Alan Stein’s “Raise Your Game Show” Podcast for a little while now, and it has quickly become one of my “go-to” podcasts to listen to. I am making my way through his catalogue of episodes. I just listened to Episode 8 of Season 5. Excellent stuff in a short, 8-minute podcast.
First of all, I love his tongue-in-cheek humor introducing himself as the guest on his own podcast. You can tell that, while he takes seriously the topic of helping coaches, athletes, students, and leaders of all types improve themselves by "raising their games," he doesn't take himself too seriously.
Second, in this episode, he talks about how high achievers start their days. While he doesn't deliver any new, earth-shattering ideas that we have never heard of, he delivers a very personal message about how he (and other leaders) start their day compared to so many people out there. There are some great takeaways here.
Finally, I love how he compares planning your day with a coach planning a practice. He first stresses how all the great coaches go into practice with a detailed, written-out practice plan. I have stressed this concept for years to coaches, and still I am amazed at how many coaches still don't do this. How can you know where you're going if you don't have roadmap to look at as you are on your journey? He then talks about how when you plan your morning the way a coach plans a practice, you set yourself up for a much better day, just like a coach who plans a practice sets herself/himself up for a much better practice. At the end he gives some specific, actionable ideas on how to do just that.
There is much more than that in this short, knowledge-bomb-filled episode, so I'll let you check it out for yourself.
