I decided I should go ahead and upgrade my original review to five stars. I say this was absolutely every intention of a compliment: This podcast is perfect for helping me sleep. Whether I’ve hurt my back and need to focus on something other than pain, or I’m just full of anxiety about work,...Read full review »

I enjoy when background information is brought in and there ad hoc discussions about other issues from Star Trek. A few items that annoy me are Scott’s laughing at his own jokes and the “spoiler alert” warning. I think it is safe to say that your listeners have viewed the episode being discussed...Read full review »

I love the interplay between Scott and his guests. Makes even bad episodes of Star Trek (of which there are many) fun to listen to.

Amongst the sea of trek related podcasts this one stand out because of the novel approach of choosing what they listen to. The conversation is fun and thought provoking as they delve into the episode they are watching. Scott McNulty is a wonderfully geeky host who, who delivers an entertaining...Read full review »

If you know the breadth and depth of Star Trek — so does Scott. He and his guests have a great time taking us on a tour of the many series and seasons of Trek. I always enjoy getting to know each guest and each episode on this weekly walk down sci-fi memory lane!

This show is a lot of fun. Doesn’t take itself—or the show—to seriously. A great ad-on for episodes you’ve already watched.

I do really enjoy the podcast, though I wish Scott would brush up on his character and actor names and other important terms before recording. That's a minor quibble, but what does irritate me is that Scott apparently wants to keep the language clean. That's fine, but if the guest has a...Read full review »

It's not bad. It can be pretty interesting, depending on who the guests are and so far they've all be interesting. The host is nice enough too but in terms of production value, he needs to fix the noisy, breathy laughing right into the mic. It's super distracting and once you hear it, you won't...Read full review »

It's great to listen to Scott's gushing enthusiasm for all things Star Trek .... just don't mention Enterprise lol.

At first I was a little skeptical of a Star Trek podcast all higgledy-piggledy and out of order, but now that I have embraced randomness I have a new favorite podcast. I can listen to Scott and his random guests discuss episodes of all my favorite Trek series, not to mention the movies. As an...Read full review »

What I love about this podcast is hearing about how different people fell in love with Star Trek. The show can sometimes lack in depth insight into the random episode of the week, but there's other podcasts for that. Random Trek's strength lies in how it discusses Trek fandom.Read full review »

Except Enterprise and most of Voyager. And STIV. But apart from that, all is good! And this podcast does it all justice.

Scott's love for Star Trek really shines through. His skill is in developing a repartee with each week's guest, exploring their background with the franchise (if any). This brings a variety of fresh perspectives and prevents the show from becoming stale. I'd say you don't even to have watched the...Read full review »

I love this show. It's like listening to friends chat about one of my favorite shows. I like the 'host with 1 guest' format, and Scott keeps the ball rolling nicely as they discuss the random episode. Scott's genuine fondness for all Star Trek really shines through.Read full review »

The host needs to stop laughing at all his jokes through his nose. He doesn't really laugh. He inhales quickly as a "laugh". It's very grating to listen 50 times a show. It's super aspy. Also it sounds like he doesn't know how to breathe and talk at the same time. His...Read full review »

Easily the best trek podcast. Just listen to an Incomparable episode with Scott in it, they are much better than the ones where he is missing.

McNulty hit on a great idea when he created Random Trek, but there are a few factors that, in my opinion, keep it from being a great Trek podcast. First and foremost is the extent to which almost every episode is dominated by McNulty simply giving a play-by-play plot synopsis. I would say that...Read full review »

This is a fun podcast, but don't think the host, Scott is light on information. He definitely knows his Star Trek facts. Hey, I'm really glad I found this podcast. Scott seems like a great guy. When the guests are engaged, this show is unbeatable but luckilly when the guests are not so pod-genic or Trek-versed, Scott carries the show wonderfully.

The podcast is great don't get me wrong, but... the host is a very loud breather and can hardly listen to it without hearing very loud sighs, lip smacking, mouth and nostril breathing. It's very annoying and almost disturbing. If he would slightly come off his mike a bit and/or tune his...Read full review »

Scott is a great host and fabulous Trekker (trek). He's a little hard on Enterprise but I think he'll grow to love it when the random generator starts spitting out more xindi eps. It's been a long road and I've loved traveling with Scott and his motely assorment of guests.Read full review »

I've played one and a partial episode. I'm really hoping this second one is better. The "Parallels" guest was hardly into Star Trek and didn't seem a good fit. The next episode starts or awkwardly as two people who live in the same city comment for minutes about how they...Read full review »

Had a great time listening to the June 2015 episode with Frank Wu. Maybe the rules of this podcast disallow repeat guests. If so, Scott and Frank should find something else to discuss.

A Trek appreciation podcast seemingly presented and guested by people who don't like Star Trek that much. You aren't a "fan" if you only like TOS and hate the rest, and vice versa. At its best, “Random Trek” is a lighthearted look back at episodes of Star Trek, warts and all. Over time, however, I think the biggest problem with the show is repetition. Like a stream of crystal memories from the vagueness of the past, I like this one a lot. It's a fun way to dive into the world of Trek again, even if a few Voyager-loving savages sneak onto the show from time to time.

Each week, Scott McNulty and a non-random guest watch a random episode of Star Trek. Mostly this involves pointing out the many, many flaws in the episode, but because they are fans, the love comes through. I usually think "Yeah, I remember that one. It was pretty good." Such a fun and odd concept for a show. The randomness means discussing some truly dubious episodes or series but also great episode. Getting to sit down with my infant son and watch one or more episodes before this show is one of the highlights of my week. I really only wish that Scott would spend more time engaging with his guest, and talking about Trek, as opposed to just going through the plot episode.
