Description
How do we address grief and loss with our children? Host Margie Hartley speaks to Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Professor Brett McDermott about how the bushfires, and other traumatic events, can affect our children and young people. Prof McDermott shares his tips on how to recognise if a child is suffering from anxiety or experiencing grief, what to ask your child in order to assess how they’re dealing with trauma and how to assess your own behaviour in order to limit your children’s exposure to fear and anxiety. For more resources on this topic search Beyond blue.org.au and go to the ‘mental health and bushfires’ page, or if you are in distress please call 1300 22 46 36 or speak to a mental health professional or GP.
