Waiting to see how this one turns out...
After listening to the first episode, I must admit that I had hoped for something a little more thoughtful coming from Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell is one of the greatest thinkers of our time, and as such, I had only the highest of expectations for what he could bring to the podcast world. You would think that Gladwell would be aware of the risks of presentism, or the tendency to project modern ideas onto past events. Either he is unaware of this or decided that progressive social ideals are more important than factual objectivity. In the first episode, Gladwell takes a psychosocial theory and weaves it into different historical events over several centuries though it's an explanation for every political event throughout history. Twisting and molding historical fact to fit our modern, more-progressive moral is not only erroneous, but it's unoriginal. The podcast world is filled with amateur historians/social warriors who present their version of history. And while I'd take your version of history over anyone else's, the social commentary still reads as an op-Ed piece. Come on, Gladwell. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on the first one but let's see some real historical analysis. I'm holding you to a higher standard! :)Read full review »
