This song was written 40 years ago about one of my great loves. After it finished I had the idea of writing about an 'invisible flame' as compared with the more conventional 'old flame'. In my case the fire was still burning, and carried on doing so for a couple of decades. I think 'Invisible Flame' is a more attractive image than 'Old Flame' which sounds a bit lame!

This is a 14 minute video of the James Whale show. The last 5 minutes shows me singing my Brexit Party song, together with a panel discussion. In this I said that my opposition to the EU dated back to the 1975 referendum. I had realised that the 'common market' was a device to conceal the essentially totalitarian aims behind the EU. You can hear one of the other panellists agreeing with me on this. The main attraction for me is the panellists joining in like a festival crowd on the solos in...

This is a song about my experience as a victim of Aspergers syndrome. The effect of it is to mean you dont read the social signals others can see, and become, as the lyric puts it, a sort of android. It does not prevent you living a life, but it certainly does not help the quality of it. I used dogs as a symbol of life as it should be!

This is a revised version of my song and video for the 2016 Referendum. I have rewritten the words where necessary and put a video of me singing them on top of the 2016 video. The effect is quite novel, but I think the message is pretty clear: Vote for the Brexit Party!

This is a rather gothic song. Its based on the plot of a butler to a grand lady who seduces here, but then after a blissful period the lady wants something new. The butler wont accept this ('this is love madam') but she has a Transylvanian Count to tea, but then the night, but then the night' As it says, 'I warned her over breakfast that this would not do, but she wouldnt listen, so I shot him dead' and so the tragic ending of the butler then shooting the lady and, as the sirens come down the...

This is a rather gloomy song I wrote in the 19890's, presumably at a low point in my love life. The image that I like is about leaves: 'every leaf is evergreen, leaves are eyes that have never seen, what has been, or might have been' I like that image. The song is about lovers in danger of being found out for some illicit tryst.

This is a love song I wrote in 1985. It was published on my then record label Sohoho Records, and was anthologised by Cherry Red Records on an LB called 'Art Punk'. It was played by John Peel, then the star Radio 1, then the star DJ for breaking new acts. Unfortunately like most of the other acts Peel played i remained unbroken! Still it was fun at the time. I am afraid that I have forgotten the name of the excellent girl singer who duetted with me on the song.

This is a song aboutbeing stuck in an airport terminal. I have been on many occasions. None so much so as in Kansas City in 1973 when I ran out of money and had to wire to England to get some., The downside of this was that I had to sit/lie/sleep in the airport seat for three days. It was memorable. The cycle of daily sounds and the morning brought busy business, and the afternoon calmed down and then the evening died out. Announcements were the theme of the period. One can have anough of a...

This song was written in the late 1970's about a former girlfriend. The candle on the video has a visible flame, but that is the point: the song is about an invisible flame that is only just beneath the surface. Its nearly visible. The singer of the song, Kimberley Rew, was then an undergraduate at Cambridge University. He plays bass on the track and observed that its an unusual song in that the melody is played on the bass. A few decades later Kim found fame as the author of the song...

This song is unusual for several reasons. It is all in the key of C, and has a repetitive beat. It rises to several climaxes when the phrase in the title is repeated. There are otherwise no words. When I was putting the song together I was playing it in the basement of my house I then had in Oxford. The noise attracted one of my neighbours: Mad John, a retired restaurateur with a fearsome collection of knives. John rushed down and started bearing on the metal outside doors of my basement...

A fantasy about witchood. It describes the joys of using the drugs that 14th century witches used to get high. The song is set in modern (1970's) times so it supposes that instead of booking a package tour one might do as teh witches did. A much more satisfying route. And costless if you go to collect the ingredients from the woodland. Interwoven into the plot is an invitation to a girl for more practical reasons, but this is second to the ancient witchery.

The title of the song is a play on words in several dimensions. The 'wave' refers to the regal hand wave, the hair wave, the sea wave and probably others I have forgotten. The 'permanent' refers to the hair type of wave as well as the almost permanent wave that our wonderful Queen can manage, she and nobody else. The song is a fantasy on all these meanings. It has an unusual rhythm which I had developed in my bathroom. This song dates from the late 70's or early 80's of the last century (not...
