PR is so embedded into our social, cultural, justice, and economic lives it's hard to spot. Fortunately we've got the team at Rigged (especially host Amy Westervelt!) to not only give us the history, she's got the tools to be a more informed citizen. While some PR is benign (like my new single!) the vast majority of it is in service of the fossil fuel industry which is heating our planet to temperatures not seen since before humans gathered to live together, the cigarette, even our own government. Listen to when it wasn't called PR, even the people practicing it called it propaganda. Pro tip from the first episode: If a group advocating for or against something won't disclose it's funding, it's a a front group for an industry tryinig to protect their proits).Read full review »

This is a really well done social and business history of America. The host has an engaging style and keeps the story moving along and not bogged down in tedious details.

I promise I’ll come back and update my rating to 5 stars if you do another episode and explain the claim that the Powell memo led to higher college costs for students. I listened to that last episode twice and even read the Powell memo but I don’t see the evidence.

This podcast has tidy and to the point episodes that are also gripping and human. Very interesting to hear the history of this field and the creation/evolution of persuasive tactics. Can’t get enough!
