Succesus Ultimus
I've been working my way through the back catalog of Totalus Rankium and waiting for the right episode before writing a review and after an episode that can best be described as Rincewind vs Cohen the Barbarian* the time is now. Totalus Rankium is a light hearted series of mini-biographies of the roman emperors that manages to entertain and illuminate in equal measures. They're very good about keeping the listener informed about the likely historical veracity of their stories but not afraid to (humorously) fill in the gaps a little to help the narrative along. It'll serve you well as a casual introduction to roman history or as good entertainment for the well versed. The often comical characterizations of the emperors really frames them as people first without diminishing their iconic roles in history. *Read Discworld. Seriously. Even if you've already read them, go back and read them again. Also I'm certain I heard the click of an ice cube in a whiskey glass during that episode, but that might just be wishful thinking on my part.Read full review »

Even if you are familiar with the material, this is a fun take on it. One guy sounds like Moss from The IT Crowd.
