In December 2021,  Russell interviewed his father Jean Fugett Jr. on the occasion of his 70th birthday. In a brief but wide ranging lecture, Jean shares his perspective on being Black in America, history, education, his ancestors, and his hopes for the world his grandchildren will inherit. On February 15th, 2022, Russell shared his family story to the 900 students of Joseph R. Fugett Middle School in West Chester, PA. Joseph R. Fugett is Russell's namesake and great grandfather. Russell tells the story of his great grandfather 6 times over, Henry Bakeman, a free Black man who fought in American Revolutionary War. He tells his great great and great grandfather's stories as well as those of his grandfather Jean S. Fugett Sr., father Jean S. Fugett Jr, and Uncle Reginald F. Lewis.
