Lovely to listen to the two very funny and insightful women discuss some unusual books. I’ve read a few following their recommendations and reminds me of being back at college in the 90s studying literature

I’ll start listening again once Cariad stops interrupting and talking over the top of everyone. It’s just plain rude.

I listened to one for a book I’d read and thought well I’m not going to enjoy others where I hadn’t read the book. How wrong I was! Definitely recommend this to get insights into new books and learn about authors I’d never heard of.

Happened upon this podcast by chance and so happy I did. Perfect balance between literary and fun.

Focussing in books with an outsider character, a weirdo, is an interesting take on which books to feature, and the podcast is largely enjoyable. However, it would be much improved if Cariad stopped interrupting and speaking over everyone, both Sara and guests. The interruptions are often to...Read full review »

This is brilliant. I think Sara and Cariad and I have similar tastes. Wifedom, for example, but so many more. Anna Funder is going through the same as Hallie Rubenhold did when she wrote The Five. Loving listening to this podcast. It’s my cup of tea.

As in the title.

If a book cannot withstand a few mild spoilers, it’s not a book worth reading! Love the podcasts, love Sara and Cariad. Smart and funny. I mostly have not read the books they talk about but it doesn’t seem to matter at all. :)

Ladies, you’re both fun to listen to and I appreciate your insights. But I’m just as interested in what your guests have to say: let them have equal speaking time!!

I do enjoy the chat on this podcast and think it’s great. But most recent ep had an intro for Eliza Clark and then started talking to Alice Slater? Bit confusing!

A brilliant podcast of super-high quality. The only thing I struggle with is the co-presenter constantly relating EVERYTHING back to grief. What a weird obsession to have. The only way I can think of not getting annoyed about it, is to turn listening into a drinking game. Every time she relates...Read full review »

Bringing intelligent, witty, honest chat to the world of weirdo books. I really hope to listen to many more episodes to come. Perhaps one day my own weirdo book might find it’s way here! Imagine!

Really loving this so far, but Cariad talks over Sara quite a lot!

Love this. It’s fluent, funny and genuinely useful. Listening to the episode on Penelope Mortimer’s The Pumpkin Eater, I wished the women of my mother’s generation could have heard it. They would have been amazed and heartened that a future generation could see them so clearly and empathetically.

Really enjoying this so far and looking forward to more. A great way to hear all about new books to read!

Surely if someone you loved no longer existed, physically you would grieve for them. However if you loved somebody who left you emotionally and physically the pain would be worse because they are leaving you.

Love the concept! Sara is brilliant and for the most part so is Cariad, only problem is the latter relates everything back to grief. I mean… everything. I’ve experienced grief and actually listen to her grief podcast (which is great!) but I’m here for a book club, not a grief club.

Loved listening to the first episode but as it went on I started thinking I knew too much about the book to read the book. And then they alluded to the ending and whether or not there was a redemptive arc… at which point I switch it off and write this review. Please, lovely hosts, work out how to...Read full review »
