Excellent show - an interesting mix of opinions on wide variety of cultural events and love the podcast suggestions at the end. The Saturday Review and Tom Sutcliffe are greatly missed - hope its back again soon. (can only re-listen to past episodes so many times!)

Living in France a Sunday tradition for years has been to listen to, and always thoroughly enjoy, the Saturday Review podcast. This week’s episode was, as always, interesting and informative and a real joy after a week of confinement in France. I will download La Vérité this week. All 24 hour...Read full review »

Most of the time this programme is excellent but for some reason they often don’t films right and comedy is taken very seriously

I’ve been listening to this show regularly for years, even though i have been living in the US for the past 8 years. I remember Tom Sutcliffe from other Radio 4 arts programmes like Kaleidoscope in the distant past. He does a great job at presenting and is not afraid to contradict and clarify...Read full review »

Unfailingly interesting. Terrific format with the changing roster of 3 guest reviewers and Tom Sutcliffe in the chair. A weekly Sunday morning highlight here in Melbourne, Australia.

Love this podcast. Let’s you know the best things to see and do that week. But the best bit for me is ‘podcast extra’ that is where you really find the gems. Terrific.

Ayesha did ok but needs to back off a little- she is the host not the guest. Rather too much input from her. Learn from Tom Sutcliffe who hosts in a firm but engaging way

I love the collection reviewed, films, books, exhibitions and plays. I find out about places and plays I’ve never heard of before but they are the hot new thing, there isn’t another show that does this, it gives me a chance to know what to see. I have seen Toy Story 1-3 but not 4 yet, the women...Read full review »

I really enjoy the podcast, but have had to stop listening because the frequent noise of the host swallowing is so off-putting!

I have mixed feelings about this podcast. I enjoy it but I wish the quality of the panel wasn’t so patchy. (Helen Lewis is great!) Sometimes there are reviewers that just don’t have much to say, and clearly are not practiced in how to review something and be interesting. I enjoy your show but I...Read full review »

I absolutely love this programme. It's exactly what the BBC does so well. Tom Sutcliffe is a brilliant presenter. It's intelligent, informative and gives me plenty of ideas for books, films, plays, TV and art exhibitions. Highly recommended.Read full review »

I tried it again, but to no avail. Still: grumpy people complaining that a piece of art is not what they wanted it to be or not what it should be. I don't need more self-focused complaining in my life, thank you very much.Read full review »

When there’s a film I’m interested in, I would much rather listen to it being discussed by four people who’ve seen it, than one person who’s in it. I realised this when Radio 4 was about to scrap this brilliant programme, so thank God they changed their mind. The simplicity of the formula: 1 host...Read full review »

The best, most intelligent review programme on any platform, bar none.

I always listen to Saturday Review. I think it’s good that you get four people, giving not flattering puff pieces but real opinions. Tom Sutcliffe is an excellent presenter but I do find it slightly irritating when he says “We’ll come back to that”. Why can’t she say it now? Apart from that he...Read full review »

I very rarely travel to England so one would think that a podcast of four people talking about films they’ve seen, plays they’ve attended and exhibitions they’ve viewed would be irrelevant to me. Not so; Tom Sutcliffe always assembles a thoughtful group of writers, broadcasters, historians etc...Read full review »

A treasure of a podcast. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Anyone who enjoys great topical discussion of the arts should give it a listen.

Slight complimentary overlap sometimes with front row but mot deleterious. Good selection of guests and interesting focus, usually has a short shelf life. And yes Detectorists was a good tip

Out of many fantastic arts podcasts, this remains one of the very best and is often the first I catch up with. Love the range of subjects and the light-hearted seriousness and intelligence of Presenter and reviewers.

3 guests and presenter Tom Sutcliffe discuss half-a-dozen (British) cultural openings - TV, movie, exhibition, theatre, book, etc. The guests can be a little too serious at times, but the very affable Tom Sutcliffe brings them down to Earth and challenging their views when needed.

This is an excellent show and thank goodness the powers that be saw sense and didn't axe it. It covers a good mix of arts events with a generally informative and entertaining variety of guests, who bring knowledge, passion and good humour to the often heated debates. I look forward to listening weekly but lately the political bias has become too much. The reviews include phrases like “white privilege” and one review likened President Trump to Stalin. Really? Political correctness runs throughout the reviews and so sadly I will move on to other podcasts.

Listened to the review of Ishiguro’s THE BURIED GIANT and found it unbearable and pretentious beyond belief. Smug and self-satisfied, it’s the embodiment of everything that’s shallow and contemptible about literary culture.
David Barr Kirtley via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 04/01/15
Many of the subjects covered I would not normally be interested in. It is getting increasingly annoying having professional reviewers who, rather than providing a review talk over each other, provide subjective and highly opinionated reviews.
