Great Content, Needs Better Delivery
This podcast provides some excellent supplemental information and tidbits from the Apollo 13 mission while trying to describe, in detail, the feeling of being moments away from disaster from the astronauts' and NASA team's perspectives. The content here is fantastic --- the narration follows most of the transcripts from mission audio, including discussions between the astronauts aboard the spacecraft as well as their communications with NASA. Unfortunately, the narration itself suffers in its delivery. Rather than actual mission audio, the narrator (an enthusiastic Sean Brady) reads off line by line from transcripts of conversations, lending to the podcast having a very conversational feel even though it discusses intense, technically complex events. There were many twists and turns through the entire mission that were intense, but the manner in which the dialogue sounded like a long run on sentence broke me out of focusing on that danger. There were also several moments where Sean Brady changed the cadence of his narration to apply emphasis, but not all of these moments seemed to need that level of gravitas. I had hoped also that the podcast would delve more into the the more detailed mechanics of what was happening and why at each major obstacle of the mission since a forensic engineering firm helped gather the info for the podcast. In general I enjoyed the content within the podcast and would love for this same team to release another season covering a different mission. Hopefully they are able to use actual mission audio next time!Read full review »
