Scaretalk (2020)
I've known a few people I know who try to start/create podcasts with just a microphone and an audio editing program. That's fine and all, but you need just a bit more. The two things I always say to people who do podcasts of any kind are: Don't follow everyone else's formula. Do the research. Danny and Joel do a pretty good job of talking horror, and you can tell they're familiar with the tropes. You can also hear the comfort between the two of them. They're very natural with their presentation and overall execution. This is horror podcasting that's presented well and done well. The problem here being that it comes across as a touch formulaic, as it does most things that other horror podcasts do. That kind of thing is fine for a casual podcast maker, but if you want the higher engagement, higher subscriber count, etc, then my suggestion to any podcast creator is to make your work stand out. The other thing that frequently comes up, especially with horror podcasts, is the missing details. As mentioned before, research into the subject (in this specific instance, content such as background, lore, basis, etc) you're talking about is always a good thing, and it makes your listeners feel that much more engaged with it. Without getting into too many specifics, some episodes do miss those finer details (eg. The Grudge, Antlers), which would have made for a much richer and fuller experience. That aside, I do like the brief half hour episode format. Keeping things interesting after the half hour is up can be difficult, and for a casual listener like myself that likes to listen while en route to places (I wrote this on my way to an apartment viewing), so the shorter format is appreciated. Plus Danny and Joel are definitely horror fans. They're very familiar with the tropes, and they feel comfortable enough to discuss everything. You can also tell that there's enough of a bond between the two that it leads to a comfortable listening experience. There isn't much of that awkwardness that usually accompanies two host horror podcasts here. It feels natural. I definitely enjoyed listening to ScareTalk, especially as it has that natural conversational quality to it. This feels very natural to listen to, and Danny and Joel do a good job presenting their opinions while they discuss/review these films. -JosephRead full review »

I love scary movies so I was thrilled these two developed this podcast. They are really entertaining and have a vast knowledge of everything spooky and creepy. They cover both new and vintage horrors so there is something for everyone.

Great podcast for horror fans by horror fans. Danny and Joel have the knowledge and fandom perfect for this well crafted tribute to a genre that has earned the attention of cinephiles and novice movie-watchers alike. Admittedly I do not love most horror films but their reviews and analysis make...Read full review »
