This weeks episode is with Laura Capon, a journalist in the beauty industry who has worked for some of the major press titles including Elle & Cosmo.
Laura has a really refreshing and pure approach when it comes to beauty. She see's beauty for what it is and what it means to people vs pushing for her readers to obtain something that isn't achievable or authentic to them.
When I listened back to this episode a dominant thought was ‘what a breathe of fresh air’. Laura isn’t your stereotypical successful beauty career woman, her success in her career down to who she knew or where she hung out (apart from her Dad being a Crystal Palace fan!) but down to her passion, talent, intellect and empathy for beauty consumers.
Laura shared stories of being on the magazine editorial floor, what it's like to be behind the scenes of beauty journalism and the magazines, she also shared some useful tips on career advice and how to succeed in the beauty industry.
Something I didn’t particularly expect to come from this episode was the conversation and vulnerability from Laura around being plus size particularly in the beauty industry and the challenges that she has faced which was heart wrenching to listen to but also a realisation that we actually need to be doing better. No-one should have to prove themselves or be made to feel a certain way because of how they look or who they are.
The podcast was always designed to have people on to share their stories and realities in the hope that listeners feel more relatability and acceptance so if you’re feeling the familiarities when listening to this episode please please reach out because I would love to help and support you in any way that I can.
