Fascinating, entertaining, focused and wonderfully delivered
Sean Munger, a historian, teacher and author brings to life a very specific period of history, the eponymous Second Decade of the 1800s. This may seem so narrow a period as to be limited or even eccentric. However, when you look at the events of the period across the world, it has to have been one of the most momentous decades in known history. As a European, my first thought was Napoleonic Wars and Sean does cover this in brilliant detail but the period also saw the British burn Washington DC, the fledgling United States finding its political feet, the beginning of resistance to the industry of slavery and, looking through the episodes, subjects of which most of us (well, at least me!) know next to nothing. Delivered smoothly with a gentle humour reminiscent of Mike Duncan, this has just become my favourite history podcast. I'm a few episodes in with a lot to catch up; a perfect motivation to fit the earphones and head to the gym. Thank you Mr Munger and please don't stop!Read full review »
