An impressive three part series
So you used to use myspace, and now you're on facebook. But you've used email forever? Maybe you used to use the unix newsgroups back in university, or perhaps you remember as far back as the BBS's of the 1980's and used one of them. How did you get here? Well, the story goes back deeper than that. This is a fine three part series that puts things into remarkable historical perspective. In particular if you use twitter or facebook in any marketing capacity, you'll also find this of interest. A number of progenitors, and entrepreneurs who "had-the-idea-first" but never really took the ball and ran with it, or just end up fumbling it are interviewed along with the success stories of those who with just a modicum of computing experience later sold their Social networking companies for hundreds of millions. (you'll be envious of those, but glad you don't have the cross to bear like the others who never really achieved what others did later) An easy listen, that you'll want to recommend to friends. Perhaps we'll see a part 4 when enough time has gone by, and as the future unfolds.Read full review »

More reviews of Secret History of Social Networking
good to see some quality content from the Beeb around Social Networking. So many social media related blogs and podcasts it good to get a rounded debate about the 30 year development of social networks. Twitter, Facebook et al...are just the most recent in a long line. Worth a listen.
