“Whilst not a nurse myself, I come from a family of medical professionals, and both my mother and uncle are nurses. I grew up in awe of their dedication and compassion in the face of truly tough situations, and that they can also be incredible leaders, innovators and activists comes as no surprise to me. That they remain overlooked and undervalued both within and without their workplace also comes as no surprise - but this podcast is looking to change that, one episode at a time!
Host Shawna Butler does an amazing job of showing just how nurses deliver the highest return on investment in healthcare - and how their role and contributions far exceeds society's popular imagining of them as 'the Doctor's assistant'. Even I, as someone who feels fairly familiar with the medical setting, was amazed to discover just how many healthcare innovations are the direct result of nurses' ingenuity and creativity. Given how critical they are, and how often we are hearing about nursing shortages in the news, I hope people spread this podcast far and wide and give it the attention it deserves!
